How to do it
- Stand inside the car deadlift frame with the handles beside the hips and the feet about hip-width apart.
- Bend the knees and hips and take the handles with a firm grip, back flat and chest up.
- Brace hard and drive the floor away, standing up with the frame.
- Lock out with the hips through and hold for a moment at the top.
- Lower the frame under control by bending the hips and knees together.
- Reset the position fully before the next repetition.
Common mistakes
- Rounding the back. The frame's handles are usually high, which makes a flat back easier to find; use it.
- Letting the knees cave. They track over the feet on the way up; a heavy frame is the wrong place to let them drift in.
- Hitching the frame up the thighs. The lift is one smooth drive from the floor to lock-out.
- Dropping the frame. The lowering is controlled; dropping a loaded frame bounces it and the car.
