How to do it
- Attach a harness or belt to the sled's strap and put it on, with the strap running behind you to the sled.
- Step forward until the strap is taut, and lean forward into it.
- Drive the legs, pushing the floor away with each stride, and keep the lean.
- Take strong strides and let the arms swing or hold the harness.
- Keep the trunk braced and the head in line with the spine.
- Drag for the chosen distance, then stand up and let the sled stop.
Common mistakes
- Standing upright. The lean is what puts the legs into the sled; an upright body drags with the lower back.
- Taking short shuffling steps. Each stride drives the floor away fully; short steps are the sled winning.
- Letting the strap go slack. Keep the drive constant; a strap that slackens and snaps taut jerks the sled and the back.
- Loading it so heavily it stops between strides. A sled that will not keep moving cannot be driven; take weight off.
