How to do it
- Set a barbell in a landmine and fit a jammer arm or hold the end of the bar with both hands at the chest.
- Stand facing away from the pivot with the feet about shoulder-width apart, the bar's end at the upper chest.
- Bend the knees and sit the hips back slightly, keeping the chest up.
- Drive up through the legs and press the bar forward and up until the arms are straight.
- Let the body extend fully, rising onto the toes at the finish.
- Bring the bar back to the chest under control, dip, and repeat.
Common mistakes
- Pressing with the arms before the legs have driven. The legs start it and the arms finish; a press from a standing-still body is a shoulder press at an angle.
- Pressing straight up. The bar travels along the landmine's arc, forward and up; fighting the arc puts the shoulders in a poor position.
- Letting the elbows flare wide at the chest. They stay under the bar so the press starts from a stacked position.
- Standing too far from the pivot. The bar should arrive at the upper chest with the arms bent; too far away and the press starts half-extended.
