How to do it

  1. Stand holding a barbell with an underhand grip, hands about shoulder-width apart and arms hanging straight down.
  2. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart, and tuck your elbows in against your sides.
  3. Curl the bar upward by bending your elbows, keeping your upper arms still against your ribs. Only your forearms should move.
  4. Continue until your forearms are roughly vertical and the bar is near your shoulders.
  5. Squeeze at the top, then lower the bar under control all the way back to straight arms. The lowering half is worth as much as the lifting half; dropping the bar wastes it.
