How to do it
- Lie on your back on the floor with one kettlebell beside your shoulder.
- Roll toward it, take the handle in both hands, and roll back to bring it to your chest.
- Bend the knee on the loaded side with the foot flat, or keep both legs straight.
- Press the bell up until the arm is almost straight, bell resting on the forearm.
- Lower under control until the upper arm touches the floor, and pause.
- Press again from the dead stop, then finish the side before swapping.
Common mistakes
- Getting into position by lifting the bell from beside you with one arm. Rolling into it with two hands is the setup; reaching for a kettlebell on the floor with a straight arm is where shoulders get hurt.
- Letting the wrist bend back. The bell rests on the forearm and the wrist stays in line, exactly as in the rack.
- Bouncing the elbow off the floor. The pause is the exercise — the floor removes the bottom of the range so the press starts from nothing.
- Letting the loaded side roll off the floor. One bell on one side is a rotation the trunk resists for the whole set.
