How to do it
- Place two kettlebells on the floor about shoulder-width apart, handles up, and set your hands on the handles in a push-up position.
- Extend your legs behind you so the body forms a straight line, and brace the stomach.
- Lower the chest between the handles until it is level with them or slightly below.
- Drive up hard enough that the hands leave the handles.
- Land back on the handles with the elbows slightly bent, absorbing the landing.
- Sink into the next repetition without pausing.
Common mistakes
- Landing off-centre on the handle. The hand has to come back to the middle of the handle each time; a landing at the edge tips the bell and the wrist with it.
- Going so deep the shoulders roll forward. The handles allow the chest lower than the floor would, and the bottom stops where the shoulders can still stay pulled back.
- Catching stiff-armed. Elbows bend as the hands land; a locked landing on a raised handle is worse than one on the floor.
- Letting the bells wobble. Set them on a firm surface with the handles steady before starting; a bell that rocks under a landing will roll.
