Trains the Triceps.

- Isolation
- Force
- Push

- Intermediate

How to do it
- Lie on a flat bench holding an EZ bar with a close overhand grip.
- Press it up until the arms are straight over your chest.
- Keep the upper arms roughly vertical and the elbows pointing forward.
- Bend the elbows to lower the bar toward your chin rather than your forehead.
- Let the bar come close to the chin, keeping the upper arms still.
- Straighten the arms back to the start without letting the elbows flare.
Common mistakes
- Lowering to the forehead instead. The chin is what distinguishes this from a skull crusher — the bar travels further down the body, which keeps the elbow angle tighter through the bottom.
- Letting the upper arms travel back over the head. Vertical upper arms is what keeps this a triceps movement; letting them drift turns it into a pullover.
- Going heavy with a bar above your face. The elbows are bent and the bar is over your chin, and a failed repetition has nowhere good to go.
- Flaring the elbows to move more weight. Elbows in keeps the load on the triceps; out turns it into a close-grip press.
