How to do it
- Clean one kettlebell to the rack position with the bell resting on the back of your forearm, palm facing you.
- Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart and your stomach braced.
- Press the bell overhead while rotating your hand outward, so the palm finishes facing forward.
- Finish with the arm straight and the bell settled over the shoulder.
- Reverse it — lower while rotating the palm back toward you.
- Arrive at the rack with the bell back on the forearm, then finish the side before swapping.
Common mistakes
- Rotating at the very top or the very bottom. The turn spreads across the press; done at one end it becomes a separate twist with a bell hanging off the wrist.
- Letting the wrist bend back under the bell. Straight wrist with the bell resting on the forearm is what makes a kettlebell press comfortable, and the rotation makes it easier to lose.
- Using your straight kettlebell press weight. The rotation happens in the weakest part of the range, and the load reflects that.
- Learning it before a clean kettlebell press. The rack position and the press come first; the rotation is added to a movement that already works.
